History

This material was originally built up as a "classic" newsgroup FAQ. It contains a mixture of information, explanation, and advice. It is posted once per month to news:uk.gov.agency.csa . NACSA publish a hypertext version of the material which appears to be essentially identical to the posted FAQ. It is not clear what IPR (such as copyright) exists for this material.

See the administrative details below which surround the body of the FAQ each time. As can be seen, the FAQ has not been updated since 28th July 1999. Parts of it are seriously out of date. It does not address the reformed scheme, for which the legislation was drafted and debated and voted upon since that date.

The future of the FAQ posted to the newsgroup is uncertain, partly because no one is currently maintaining it, and partly because serial text is not the best way of conveying such a large and complex body of material, especially when there are vast numbers of web sources (including this one!) for which clickable browser links could usefully be provided.

Future

This current site will initially carry a hypertext version of the FAQ of news:uk.gov.agency.csa of 28th July 1999. (This is not derived from the NACSA version). Each such page will have this background image:

Over time, material within this hypertext version conforming to the philosophy of this web site (especially material concerned with information and explanation) will be updated and date-stamped, or simply replaced by links to material elsewhere on this web site. Material not conforming to the philosophy of this web site (especially material concerned with advice and campaigning, and material best dealt with elsewhere), will be removed or replaced with links to more appropriate places.

I intend to work with other people and organisations to ensure that these "frequently asked questions", and others, continue to be answered. Such organisations may include the CSA itself (which has its own brief FAQ) and NACSA.

I have no authority (that I am aware of!) to change the FAQ posted to news:uk.gov.agency.csa and I don't know what can and should be done with it.
